Dynasty Financial’s Latest Pivot: Making Investments in RIAs

Dynasty Financial Partners is now offering minority investments in registered investment advisors within its network, giving RIAs access to capital to grow their practices through acquisitions, hiring, and scaling operations. CEO Shirl Penney says the move is designed to support advisors without taking control of their firms, maintaining Dynasty’s focus on partnership rather than ownership.

The firm targets 25%-35% stakes with flexible terms, typically five to eight years, allowing advisors to buy back equity or sell additional shares later. The offering comes amid record-setting M&A activity in the RIA sector, with 76 deals in Q1 2020 alone, according to Echelon Partners.
